In case you’re unaware, Southwest Airlines is a super popular low-cost (read: cheap, in a good way) airline that offers a variety of deals and discounts to help us travelers save a decent amount of money on their flights.
Some say they’re a “no frills” airline but, let’s be honest, if I can save some money on my flight, I’m willing to give up some of the “luxuries” that other airlines may offer (hint: they don’t).
I’ve come up with some of the ways I was able to save on my Southwest flight and some ways others can save too. Finding a deal or discount has never been easier!

SOUTHWEST'S TOP WAYS TO SAVE
The best news? There are plenty of ways to save on your flight, hotel, car rental, overal vacation package and more. In fact, there are 7. Here we go.
1. Wanna Get Away Fares: Southwest Airlines offers Wanna Get Away fares, which are their lowest-priced fares. These are typically available for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and require a 14-day advance purchase. The availability of these fares varies depending on the route and time of year. So be sure to check in with them to see which fares are currently discounted.
2. Promo Codes & Coupons: Southwest will occasionally releases promo codes that can be used to save money on their flights, hotels, and even car rentals partnerships they have. These codes are usually announced on their website or social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and can be used to get discounts on flights or vacation packages. Be sure to follow them to stay in the loop!
3. Rapid Rewards: Southwest Airlines’ loyalty program, Rapid Rewards, allows members to earn points for flights and other purchases. These points can be redeemed for free flights, upgrades, and other fun rewards. As a member you can also earn points through partner programs, like rental cars, hotels, and more.
4. Companion Pass: Rapid Rewards members who earn 125,000 qualifying points or fly 100 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year can earn a Companion Pass, which allows a designated companion to fly with them for free (excluding taxes and fees) for the rest of the calendar year in which it is earned and the following calendar year.
5. Military Discounts: They currently offer military discounts to active duty military personnel and their families. The discount will vary depending on the route and time of year, but can be as much as 15% off the base fare.
6. Group Discounts: Traveling with a large group/party? They also offer discounts for groups of 10 or more people who are traveling together on the same flight. The discount varies depending on the route and time of year, but can be up to 10% off the base fare.
7. Senior Discounts: If you’re a senior traveler who’s 65 year old or older, you can qualify for a discount too. As always, the dicount varies depending on the route and time of year, but can be as much as 10% off the base fare.
