The Best Month to Buy Your New Mattress

The best month to buy a mattress often depends on various factors such as personal preferences, seasonal sales trends, and the release schedules of new mattress models. However, if we were to narrow it down to one month that consistently sees excellent deals and promotions from mattress retailers based on our internal data and research over the years, it would be May.

May tends to offer a perfect storm of factors that make it an ideal time to purchase a mattress:

1. Memorial Day Sales: Memorial Day weekend, which falls at the end of May, is known for being one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Many mattress retailers offer significant discounts, promotions, and bundle deals during this time to attract new customers.

2. Spring Cleaning and Refreshing: With spring in full swing, many people are in the mood for cleaning and refreshing their homes. Mattress retailers often capitalize on this by offering enticing deals to entice shoppers looking to upgrade their mattresses as part of their spring cleaning routine.

3. New Model Releases: In the mattress industry, new models are often released in the spring (usually April), which means retailers are eager to clear out older inventory to make room for the latest designs. This can translate into deep discounts on last year’s models, making May an excellent time to snag a deal.

4. Pre-Summer Preparation: As summer approaches, many people start thinking about getting their homes ready for guests or simply seeking a more comfortable sleep environment for warmer nights. This increased demand for mattresses can lead to competitive pricing and attractive promotions from retailers.

Overall, May offers a combination of seasonal sales events, new model releases, and consumer demand that makes it one of the best times of the year to buy a mattress. However, it’s essential to keep an eye out for promotions and deals throughout the year, as retailers may offer discounts at other times as well. Ultimately, the best time to buy a mattress is when you find the perfect combination of price, quality, and convenience that meets your needs.

When NOT to Buy a New Mattress

While there are optimal times to buy a mattress, there are also times when it’s best to hold off on your purchase:

1. Early Spring: Believe it or not, early spring is when many retailers launch new mattress models, which means you might miss out on clearance deals on older models.

2. Last-Minute Rush: If you find yourself in desperate need of a mattress due to a sudden move or unexpected guest, you might end up paying top dollar for convenience. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute panic purchases.

3. Impulse Buys: Don’t let flashy advertising or high-pressure sales tactics sway you into making a hasty decision. Take your time, do your research, and make an informed choice.

Other Popular Times of Year to Make Your Purchase

The sweet spot for mattress shopping typically falls during certain times of the year. So, when should you pounce on that dreamy mattress deal?

1. Seasonal Sales: Keep an eye out for major holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, and Presidents’ Day. These holidays often bring mattress retailers out in force, slashing prices and offering tempting promotions.

2. End-of-Year Clearance: As the year comes to a close, many retailers offer deep discounts to clear out old inventory and make room for new models. Keep your eyes peeled for these end-of-year blowouts in November and December.

3. Black Friday and Cyber Monday: Ah, the holy grail of shopping extravaganzas! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are prime time for snagging a steal on a mattress. Just be prepared to brave the crowds or navigate the virtual aisles with lightning-fast clicking.

4. New Model Releases: Believe it or not, mattress models follow trends too. When new models hit the market, older models often go on sale to make way for the shiny newcomers. Keep an ear to the ground for announcements about new releases and jump on those discounted models.

Tips & Tricks For Scoring the Best Price

Now that you know when to shop, let’s talk strategy. Follow these tips to maximize your savings and score the best mattress for your buck:

1. Do Your Research: Don’t jump into mattress shopping blindly. Research different brands, materials, and mattress types to find the perfect fit for your needs and budget.

2. Test Before You Invest: Visit brick-and-mortar stores to test out mattresses in person. Just like Goldilocks, you’ll want to find the one that’s just right for you in terms of firmness, support, and comfort.

3. Negotiate Like a Pro: Don’t be afraid to haggle! Many mattress retailers are willing to negotiate prices or throw in extras like free delivery or pillows to sweeten the deal.

4. Read the Fine Print: Before you swipe your credit card, read the warranty and return policy carefully. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions in case you need to return or exchange your mattress.

In Conclusuion

So there you have it.  From our years of posting mattress sales, we’ve found that May is the month where you can usually get the best overall deal.  However, big tent-pole sales events pop up throughout the year like Memorial Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, and President’s Day – not to mention Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

If you’re not in desperate need, try to hold off on buying your mattress in very early Spring (like March) and don’t forget if you’re buying in-person you can usually negotiate a bit and at least get some free pillows, a pillow-top upgrade, or even possibly free delivery.
