The Best Month to Buy a New Dishwasher

As summer transitions into fall, the period from September to November emerges as the prime time to purchase a dishwasher. Several factors contribute to this optimal buying window:

End-of-Season Sales: With the arrival of fall, retailers typically offer end-of-season sales and promotions to clear out remaining inventory from the summer months. Dishwashers are no exception, and you can often find significant discounts on a wide range of models during this time.  Specifically be on the lookout for major savings (upwards of 20%) during Labor Day Weekend, Columbus Day and, of course, Black Friday.

New Model Releases: Manufacturers often unveil their latest dishwasher models in the fall, prompting retailers to discount older models to make room for new inventory. As a result, you may find markdowns on last year’s models or clearance items as retailers make way for the latest releases.  If you don’t care about going with a popular dishwasher from the previous season/year this may be your best bet.

Pre-Holiday Prep: With the holiday season on the horizon, many buyers begin preparing their homes for gatherings and parties. Purchasing a dishwasher in the fall allows you to upgrade your kitchen appliances before the holiday rush, ensuring you’re ready to tackle meal cleanup with ease.

The "Worst" Month to Buy Dishwashers

Based on 6+ years of our own internal dishwasher sales data, we’ve found that the worst month to buy a new dishwasher is typically December. Of course there’ll always be some retailer trying to get rid of their inventory and will slash prices, but here’s why December is usually the toughest month to score a deal:

Holiday Demand: Obviously, December is a month marked by increased spending on just about everything, particularly on gifts, decorations, and holiday preparations. With many of us focusing on holiday expenses, demand for appliances like dishwashers usually are not a priority, leading to limited availability and higher prices.

Limited Inventory: Due to the holiday rush and increased demand for various products, retailers may experience inventory shortages or sell out of popular dishwasher models. This limited availability can restrict your options and make it challenging to find the specific dishwasher you’re looking for.

Busy Season for Retailers: December is a busy month for retailers, with many focusing on meeting holiday sales goals and managing increased foot traffic. As a result, customer service and attention to detail may suffer, leading to a less-than-optimal shopping experience for those purchasing dishwashers during this time.

Sales Aside, the #1 Thing to Keep in Mind

This may seem like a no-brainer for some, but it’s one thing that snuck up on us when we recently had to replace our dishwasher.  If you’re budgeting for your dishwasher purchase be sure to plan for installation.  If you’re not doing this yourself, which most aren’t, this can actually get really pricey.

So be sure to factor in the cost of installation and any additional accessories or services you may need, like dishwasher installation kits or extended warranties, when budgeting for your purchase. Some retailers may offer installation services for an additional fee, while others may include installation as part of the purchase price.  And depending on which state you’re in, some retailers actually will not install and, therefore, you’ll have to find both a licensed plumber and even an electrician.  When did buying a dishwasher become so complicated?!

In Conclusuion

So, to sum up, the best time to buy a new dishwasher is typically from September to November. During this period, end-of-season sales, new model releases, and pre-holiday preparations create optimal times for finding great deals and a wide selection of dishwashers. By timing your purchase strategically and taking advantage of discounts and promotions, you can upgrade your kitchen with a new dishwasher while maximizing savings and ensuring a smooth shopping experience. Cheers to sparkling dishes and a stress-free purchase!
