Here at Trendsicle we’ve been covering sales and deals every month on hundreds of popular products since 2017.  From years of data we’ve discovered some of the best times of the year to score the best deals (here’s how we do that). This time around we’re covering engagement rings. Let’s do this!

Choosing an engagement ring is probably one of the most significant milestone in many people’s lives, and it often comes with a considerable price tag. Hearing commercials tell you you should be saving up 6-months of salary to get the perfect ring can certainly feel overwhelming.

While the price of engagement rings can fluctuate throughout the year, there are certain months when the best deals are typically available, as well as times when prices tend to be less favorable.

Now, we’re going to spill the beans on the “real” best times of the year to score a deal and it may be a bit controversial.  But we’re using actual data to determine the best/worst times of the year to to buy and the numbers don’t lie.

The Best Month to Buy an Engagement Ring

There are a few caveats we want to disclose.  Jewelry, in general, is such a personal experience and everyone has a different budget that they’re working with.  With that said, we pulled data over the last 4 years from us running higher-end jewelry deals and sorted through/hand selected engagement rings that were current (at the time) best sellers and of a “higher quality.”  Don’t worry, we’re not snobs.  We just mean that “higher quality” (to us) means not rings that were being marked down between 30% – 50% off.   Typically when you see discounts that high it equated to a much lower quality ring.  If that’s your jam, no judgement.  We went the more traditional route for this article.  With that said, if you’re on the hunt for a deal on an engagement ring, there are a couple of months that tend to stand out as the best times to make your purchase.

We found that the best month of the best deals on high quality rings is January.  A few reasons why includes:

New Year, New Beginnings: January marks the beginning of a new year, and for many people, it symbolizes fresh starts and new beginnings. This sentiment is often reflected in retail promotions, with retailers offering discounts on items that are popular for starting new chapters in life, such as engagement rings. Additionally, January is a popular time for resolutions and goal-setting, which may prompt some couples to take the plunge and start planning their future together by purchasing an engagement ring.

Lower Demand: After the flurry of holiday proposals in December, demand for engagement rings typically decreases in January. With fewer people actively shopping for engagement rings, retailers may be more willing to offer discounts and negotiate prices to attract customers. This lower demand can work in favor of shoppers looking to find a good deal on an engagement ring.

The second best month are data showed is shocking April.  While it might seem counterintuitive, April is typically a slower month for jewelry sales, as it falls between the holiday season and the summer wedding season. To drum up business during this quieter period, many jewelers offer promotions and discounts on engagement rings to entice you to shop this quieter time of year.

The "Worst" Month to Buy Engagement Rings

Now this is where the controversy may pop up.  While most websites claim that December is one of the best months to to get a huge deal on a variety of engagement rings, we actually disagree.  So many sites that are claiming that December is the best month are actually jewelry retailers and not independent sites.  While there can be sales, we found that these are typically much lower quality rings.

Our data shows that December is actually one of the worst months to score a sale price.  December is one of the busiest times of the year for engagements, as many couples choose to propose during the holiday season. This increased demand for engagement rings can drive up prices, as retailers know that customers are willing to pay a premium for the perfect ring to mark this special occasion. With more people vying for the same inventory, retailers have less incentive to offer discounts or promotions.

Again if you’re looking for a more “affordable” type ring, you can totally find many sales in December, but if you’re looking for more of a higher quality option, we recommend holding off in December if you can.

In Conclusuion

So, there you have it.  Whether you agree or not with our picks, the numbers don’t lie.  January emerges as the prime time to find deals, thanks to post-holiday sales, clearance events, and lower demand following the holiday rush. Conversely, December, with its heightened demand, limited inventory, and focus on holiday spending, stands as the least favorable month for snagging a deal. By strategically planning your purchase around these seasonal trends, you can increase your chances of finding the ideal ring at a price that fits your budget, ensuring that your proposal is not only memorable but also financially savvy.
