If you read every night, read lying down, read on a treadmill, or find it hard to hold a Kindle and tap the screen for an hour, a $35 clicker that turns pages, dims the screen and puts the Kindle to sleep from under the covers is an easy quality-of-life buy.[1] Casual readers can skip it. Tapping the screen is free. And check your Kindle's age first: it only works with models from 2024 and newer.[2]
Pre-order only for now. Amazon is the only place selling it.
What It Actually Is
Kindle Click is Amazon's first official Bluetooth page-turn remote, launched alongside the redesigned 2026 Kindle lineup.[5][2] Third-party clickers have been around for years. What Amazon's version adds is that it's built into the Kindle software: you pick which big button means forward and which means back in your Kindle's settings (lefties, rejoice), and the side buttons control brightness directly, with no menu.[1]
Amazon's own pitch is reading under the covers, on a treadmill, or on a tray table during a flight.[2] That last one's underrated. Prop the Kindle against the seatback, keep your hand in your lap, and turn pages for three hours without your arm going numb.
Kindle Click vs. The Page-Turn Cover
Amazon launched two page-turning accessories on the same day, and they're not interchangeable.[2]
| Kindle Click | Page-Turn Cover | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $34.99 | $79.99 |
| Works with | Any Kindle from 2024 on, plus the new lineup | Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Editions only |
| Where the buttons are | In your hand, away from the Kindle | On the cover itself |
| Best for | Kindle on a stand, a pillow or a treadmill | One-handed reading with physical buttons |
If you own a Signature Edition and like holding your Kindle, the cover makes sense. Everybody else gets more for less with the Click. And for context, the Kindles they pair with start at $149.99 for the base model, $199.99 for the Paperwhite and $289.99 for the Colorsoft.[2][3]
The One Thing To Know Before You Pre-Order
Compatibility is the whole decision. Amazon says the Click works with all of the new Kindles and with any Kindle model from 2024 or later.[2][4] That's a short list if you've had your Kindle for a while. If yours came out before 2024, the Click won't help you, and the generic clip-on remote further down this page will.
The other thing: it's a remote you have to keep charged. Amazon says weeks per charge, which is great, but it's one more USB-C thing on the nightstand.[1]
What We Don't Know Yet
Because nobody outside Amazon has used one yet, a few things that matter can't be answered until it ships:
What Sounds Promising
- Brightness on a button. Adjusting the light without opening a menu is the most useful thing here for night readers.[1]
- The sleep shortcut. Pressing both buttons to put the Kindle to sleep means you don't have to reach for it when you're done.[1]
- Amazon says it's informed by human-factors research and shaped to rest in either hand.[1]
What Owners Will Tell Us
- How many hours "weeks" of battery actually is.
- How loud the clicks are next to a sleeping partner.
- Whether page turns are instant or lag a beat over Bluetooth.
- How well it holds up to being dropped, sat on and lost in the couch.
What To Buy Instead
If your Kindle is older than 2024, or you want to spend half as much, the generic clip-on remotes have been doing this job for years. They work differently: a little arm clips to the edge of your screen and taps it for you when you press the remote.
Who It's For
Buy It If
- You read most nights, especially lying on your side, where holding a Kindle and tapping it gets old fast.
- Holding a device for a long stretch is hard on your hands or wrists. Putting the Kindle down and clicking is the whole point.
- You read on a treadmill, a bike or a plane, with the Kindle propped up and out of reach.
- Your Kindle is from 2024 or newer, or you're buying one of the new ones anyway.
Skip It If
- You read a chapter here and there. Tapping the screen works fine, and it's free.
- Your Kindle is older than 2024. It won't pair.
- You mostly read in the Kindle app on your phone or iPad. Amazon only lists Kindle devices.
- You already own a page turner you like. Nothing here is worth replacing a working one.
What You Should Actually Pay
$34.99, from Amazon, which is the only place selling it.[1] Amazon puts its own devices on sale a lot, but don't expect a discount on an accessory that hasn't shipped yet. If you're on the fence, there's no penalty for waiting until the first owner reviews come in after October 28.
