Kohl’s Cash Dates 2026: Earn, Spend & Expiration Dates

Kohl's Cash isn't a discount, it's a deadline. You earn it in one window and you can only spend it in a different one, and the gap between those two is where most of it quietly expires.

We've covered retail sale events for more than eight years. Every rule below comes from Kohl's own published terms, including the ones that cost you money.

What your cart actually earns, and what it costs you to stack

Kohl's works out your Kohl's Cash on what you pay after coupons, in $25 bands. So a coupon can quietly drop you under a band and cost you $5. Put your numbers in.

Enter a cart subtotalWe'll apply your coupons in the order Kohl's actually applies them, tell you what you pay, what Kohl's Cash you earn, and how far you are from the next $5.

    The one thing to understand

There are two different Kohl's Cash, and they don't work the same way

Almost every argument at a Kohl's register comes from this. Event Kohl's Cash is the one in the ads: you earn $5 for every $25 during a short earning window, and you can only spend it during a separate redemption window that starts after the earning one ends. Rewards Kohl's Cash is different. It's 5% back on everything, all year, 7.5% if you pay with a Kohl's Card, and it lands in your account in $5 chunks on the first of each month.

So on any given day you might have both, neither, or one of each, with different expiry dates. The calculator above and the cycle bar are about the event kind, since that's the one with a clock on it.

The fine print that costs money
Seven rules Kohl's publishes and most people miss
    • Costs youKohl's Cash is worked out after your coupons, not before. Kohl's earns it on the amount left once every coupon is applied and before tax. Stack a big coupon and you'll knock yourself into a lower $25 band, which is worth $5 a band.
    • Costs youDollar-off comes before percent-off, and that order is worse for you. Kohl's states it in capitals: dollar-off coupons, Kohl's Cash included, are applied before percent-off total-purchase coupons. On a $100 cart with $10 of Cash and a 20% coupon that's $72. The other order would have been $70.
    • ExcludedSephora at Kohl's is outside the system entirely. It doesn't earn Kohl's Cash and you can't spend Kohl's Cash on it. Neither can gift cards.
    • TimingIt expires at 11:59 PM Central on the last day of its redemption window. Kohl's is blunt about it: the Cash can't be used before or after the dates printed on it. There's no grace period and it isn't reissued.
    • ExcludedYou can't put it toward your Kohl's Card bill. Nor toward price adjustments, charitable Kohl's Cares merchandise, shipping, or tax.
    • TimingSix per transaction. If you've been hoarding, you can't unload them all in one go.
    • Costs youReturns claw it back. Return something that earned Kohl's Cash and Kohl's can cut your refund by what you earned. Return something you bought with Cash and you get Cash back, not money.
    Common questions
The things people ask us about Kohl's Cash

When does my Kohl's Cash expire?

At 11:59 PM Central on the last day of the redemption window printed on it. Kohl's says plainly that it can't be used before or after those dates, and there's no grace period. Event Kohl's Cash and Rewards Kohl's Cash carry different dates, so check each one rather than assuming they run together.

Can I use Kohl's Cash during the earning window?

Not the Cash you're earning right then. Each batch has its own redemption window that starts after the earning window closes. You can spend older Kohl's Cash during a new earning window though, and that's the move: redeem what you already have on a purchase that's also earning you a fresh batch.

Does using a coupon reduce my Kohl's Cash?

Yes. Kohl's calculates it on what's left after every coupon is applied, so a coupon can push you below a $25 band and cost you $5. That doesn't mean skip the coupon, since the coupon is usually worth more than the band. It does mean it's often worth adding a few dollars of merchandise to climb back over the line.

Does Kohl's Cash stack with coupons?

It does, and Kohl's encourages it. What matters is the order. Dollar-off coupons and Kohl's Cash come off first, then any percent-off total-purchase coupon is applied to what's left. That sequence gives you slightly less than the reverse would, which is worth knowing before you assume a stack is better than it is.

Why didn't my Sephora purchase earn Kohl's Cash?

Sephora at Kohl's merchandise is excluded from the whole system. It doesn't earn Kohl's Cash and you can't redeem Kohl's Cash against it. Gift cards are excluded the same way. If your total looked right but the Cash came up short, this is usually why.
