The Chomping Megalodon is a $49.97 RC monster truck with a working shark jaw and a chain you hook to a chair leg. Hit Beast Mode and it "breaks free" and chomps its way into a wheelie, a spin or a getaway. For a 4- to 8-year-old Monster Jam fan, it's a fun, personality-packed RC that's worth the money. It's an indoor and driveway truck, though, not a backyard bruiser, and you only get about 20 minutes a charge.
What It Actually Is

Megalodon is one of the most popular trucks in Monster Jam, the one shaped like a shark, and Spin Master makes RC versions of it at a few sizes. The Chomping Megalodon is the 2026 one, and it adds a gimmick that's really clever for little kids: it acts like a caged animal.
The included 28-inch plastic chain clips to a chair leg or anything sturdy. Press the Beast Mode button and the truck "breaks" its chain, then does one of three random moves: wheelies, a tornado spin or a speedy escape, chomping its shark jaw the whole time. That randomness is the fun part. A kid who can't steer well yet still gets a show every time they press the button.
Outside of Beast Mode, it's a full-function RC truck at 1:15 scale, about 13.7 inches long. The truck recharges over USB-C, which is a nice upgrade from swapping AA packs, and a charge gives about 20 minutes of constant play. The remote runs on 2 AAA batteries you'll need to supply.
How It Compares
| Truck | Price | Scale | The difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chomping Megalodon2026 | $49.97 | 1:15 | Chomping jaw, chain, Beast Mode |
| Megalodon RCStandard | $24.22 | 1:24 | Smaller, simpler, no chomp |
The jump from the standard Megalodon RC to this one is about $26. What you're paying for is the bigger size and the chomp-and-chain play, which turns an RC truck into something more like a pet monster. For a younger kid, that's worth it. For an older kid who just wants to drive fast, the smaller truck is plenty.
The Good and the Not-So-Good
Where It Delivers
- The chomping jaw and the chain give it a personality most RC trucks don't have.
- Beast Mode means a kid who can't steer yet still gets a big moment every time.
- It's quick and punchy for its size.
- USB-C charging. No more feeding it AA batteries.
Where It Falls Short
- About 20 minutes per charge goes fast.
- It struggles in thick grass and rough ground. It's an indoor and pavement truck.
- The remote's AAA batteries aren't included.
- It can be fast and jerky for a 4-year-old's first RC.
Our Read
The Chomping Megalodon gets the most important thing right for a kids' RC: it's fun even when the kid isn't good at driving yet. The chain-and-break-free play is a smart idea, and it gives the truck a reason to exist beyond going fast in a straight line.
Just be clear on where it lives. Kitchens, hallways, driveways and patios, yes. The backyard lawn, not so much.
What To Buy Instead
Who It's For
Buy It If
- You're shopping for a 4- to 8-year-old who loves Monster Jam, especially Megalodon.
- You want an RC that's fun before a kid masters steering.
- Most of the driving will happen indoors or on pavement.
- You like USB-C charging over swapping battery packs.
Skip It If
- You want a backyard, all-terrain truck.
- Your kid wants long run times. Twenty minutes ends fast.
- You're buying for a 9- or 10-year-old who wants speed over gimmicks.
- You'd rather spend $25. The standard Megalodon RC covers the basics.
What You Should Actually Pay
At about $50, it's priced like most featured holiday RC trucks. If it dips to around $40 during holiday sales, that's a good deal. Grab a 2-pack of AAA batteries while you're at it.
