A working digital camera the size of a AA battery, styled after Kodak's 1987 disposable, that hangs off your keys and shoots deliberately terrible 1.6 megapixel photos with vintage frames. You don't choose the color; you open the box and find out. RETO made it, Kodak licensed it, TikTok did the rest, and for most of the last year you couldn't get one at retail. Now you can, at $34.99, from RETO's own Amazon store.
What the Kodak Charmera Actually Is
It's a 30 gram digital camera, 58 mm long, built to look like a shrunken Kodak point-and-shoot from 1987, with a metal keyring on one end. Inside is a 1/4 inch sensor that shoots 1.6 megapixel stills (1440 x 1080) through a 35 mm f/2.4 lens, plus 1080p video at 30 frames a second with sound. There's a 0.8 inch screen on the back that's just big enough to frame a shot, a little LED flash that makes a shutter noise, and a 200 mAh battery you charge over USB-C. Photos save to a microSD card you supply yourself.
The photos are bad on purpose. That's the whole pitch: the pictures look like they came off a 2004 flip phone, and you can stack four Kodak-branded frames and seven filters (black and white, warm, cool, and four pixelated color washes) on top to lean into it. The people who love this thing say so in almost exactly those words. It competes less with a camera than with a Polaroid at a party, or a Labubu on a bag.
The one thing to know before you buy
You're buying a blind box, not a color. The Kodak-yellow one everybody posts is one of six, and there's no retail way to choose it. If you need a specific design, the honest options are the six-box set (every regular design, no repeats, $194.95 at B&H or Adorama) or an opened camera from a reseller at roughly double. The secret transparent edition is a 1-in-48 pull per RETO. Go in for the surprise or don't go in.

- You grew up on 2 megapixel phone cameras and the look makes you happy. Every five-star review is some version of this.
- You're throwing a party, a wedding or a trip and want a camera you can hand to anyone without caring what happens to it.
- You're gift shopping for a teenager or a Labubu-adjacent adult and need something under $40 that gets a reaction.
- You like the blind-box gamble. Getting the transparent one is a story, and a $150 story at that.
- You want good photos. It's 1.6 megapixels and it's meant to be. Nothing in the reviews will change that.
- You want the filters on video. They're photo-only, and the people who bought it off a TikTok ad are the ones who complain about this.
- You won't buy a memory card. Without one it's a keychain that holds two pictures.
- You'd be paying a reseller. It's in stock at $34.99 everywhere today; a $65 "you pick" listing is a color surcharge, nothing more.

The complaints are practical and repetitive, and none of them are "it doesn't work as advertised." They're about what isn't in the box and what the video mode can't do.

Nobody is arguing about whether the Charmera is a good camera. Both sides agree it isn't. The five-star crowd bought a charm that happens to take pictures and got exactly that. The three-star crowd bought it off a video ad expecting the retro frames on their videos too, or opened the box and found there was nothing to save photos onto.
So the reviews are telling you what to expect, not whether to buy. Order a small microSD card in the same cart, know the filters are for stills, charge it before you leave the house, and you've already avoided every complaint on the page.
